A native of Red Bay, Al, Mac McAnally was reared in Belmont, MS, where his father was principal of the high school.

In 1976 at the age of 19, he moved to the Shoals and began pursuing a career in the music industry, signing as a song writer and artist with Wishbone Production and Publishing companies.

His song writing talents are varied, offering images that cut to the heart of the emotions, and capture the essence of Southern sensibilities.

Among the many hits penned by McAnally are "Old Flame" recorded by the group Alabama, Jimmy Buffett's "It's My Job," Shenandoah's "Two Dozen Roses," T.G. Sheppard's "One Owner Heart," and Ricky Van Shelton's "Crime of Passion."

As a session musician, McAnally's guitar can be heard on recordings by  Ricky Scaggs, Dolly Parton, Don Williams, Keith Whitley and Lyle Lovett, while his songs have been recorded by artists such as Randy Travis, Hank Williams, Jr., John Anderson, and Dan Seals.

Mac has produced recordings by Sawyer Brown and Jimmy Buffett.

As an artist, McAnally has created an eclectic body of work since the mid70s, with albums released by Ariola America, RCA, Geffen and Warner Brothers records. His songs "Back Where I Come From," and "Its A Crazy World," have received chart success.
